Training Coordinator, Nature Guide Training, Honduras
Rare is looking for a highly-motivated, enthusiastic educator to work as Training Coordinator for the Nature Guide Training Course scheduled to take place in the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve of northeastern Honduras beginning in summer/fall 2004. The Training Coordinator is responsible for assisting three program staff in developing and coordinating an integrated course curriculum designed to provide 8-14 local participants the necessary skills to work as bilingual, interpretive nature guides. Key duties include training and supporting a group of 3-5 English-teaching volunteers; overseeing student learning and assessment; and collaborating with and reporting to the program manager.

Project Assistant, World Heritage Partnership
Rare is currently seeking a Project Assistant to support a joint project with several UN agencies. Now entering the fourth and final year of the project, Rare is working at six World Heritage sites in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Indonesia to implement ecotourism strategies targeted at reducing threats to biodiversity conservation through training programs and environmental awareness campaigns.
The Project Assistant provides administrative and program support to the Director of the Partnership, four Country Managers, and several program staff. Key responsibilities will be to assist the Director in the day-to-day requirements of managing the project (i.e. making phone calls, preparing informational packets for distribution, attending meetings), developing external and internal communications for the project, assisting Development staff with research and writing for the submission of grant proposals, with compilation of social and biological data being collected at each World Heritage site, and communications with project partners.


Qualifications include:
Bachelor degree, preferably with an international focus. Interest and/or experience in conservation. Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and editing Spanish is required. Excellent written and oral communications skills in both English and Spanish. High level of organization, professionalism and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of an international team. Competency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, desktop publishing, email, internet. Experience working internationally

Rare welcomes motivated, hardworking interns to support our communications, fundraising, and program-related work.

Internships are typically filled for the fall, spring and summer time periods. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Although internships are structured based on current project needs and each intern’s experience and skills, most last approximately two to four months, and they are typically based at Rare’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia (located just outside of Washington, D.C.). They can be full or part-time, and most internships are unpaid. Interns are encouraged to use their experience at Rare to earn college course credits or fulfill academic requirements.
